Who We Are

BKRS is a working group of 25 individuals representing:

  • 14 industry entities, 

  • 3 universities and research institutions,

  • 2 state and federal agencies.

Angie Korabik and Alix Laferriere are marine ecologists working at the forefront of kelp ecology and mariculture. Angie is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Prince William Sound Science Center focused on data synthesis for the EVOST Mariculture Recon Project and several experiments working to better understand bull kelp growth and development. Alix Laferriere is the Deputy Director of the Resource Assessment and Conservation Engineering Division within NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center, and her local Kodiak research program focuses on ecosystem services of kelp farms and supporting the burgeoning seaweed and shellfish  industry.
