Bull Kelp Guide

This document was originally developed by Barnacle Seafoods, with input from bull kelp farmers, researchers, and conservationists in Alaska, Washington, British Columbia, and California. In 2025, the Bull Kelp Research Squad (BKRS) took over ownership of this document and began updating knowledge about bull kelp farming based on growing efforts and research conducted the previous few years. This document will be a resource for bull kelp farmers and researchers. The intent of this document is to provide information that might help reduce risk for farmers and to encourage ongoing R&D to improve cultivation and processing techniques that are specific to bull kelp. This document is not intended to be a comprehensive kelp growing manual; it is additive to other available materials.
